"A STAND OUT RIESLING"
Elegant and perfumed the bouquet of flower petals and fresh limes fills the glass.
A blend of citrus fruits and bright acidity excite the taste buds and there is plenty of flavour along the full length of the palate with a lively refreshing finish.
Aromatic and elegant on the nose with a tight clean acidity, this wine is showing all the class of a true Tasmanian cool-climate riesling. Although exciting and fresh now, this wine could also be cellared to allow the bright acid and hint of phenolics to mature.
On a north facing bank of the Derwent River this 15-year-old cool-climate vineyard in Southern Tasmania has its riesling block on the uppermost slope. The soils are shallow, permeable loams over limestone that allow this variety to develop intensity and definition while retaining delicacy.
Hand-picked at flavour ripeness, the grapes were in perfect condition on arrival at the winery where they were crushed and pressed with the utmost care.
The juice was then allowed to naturally clarify over a two-month period. The induced fermentation was restrained to very cool temperatures (9 degrees), capturing all of the precious aromatics. Although barely noticeable given the dry finish, a few grams per litre of natural grape sugars have been retained in this wine to balance the acidity.
Pale lime/straw. Opulent fragrant blossom bouquet redolent with apples, pears limes & lemons - fantastic! Palate continues the fanfare of flavours with lime dominating. Palate structure still retains tightness and the impressive acids wrap the fruit tightly for a linear and lingering finish. This is Tassie Riesling at it\'s best!!! Acclaimed by all and a great wine with great potential. 97/100.
