Region: East Coast Tasmania
Vineyard: Freycinet Vineyard
Absolute dedication, no compromise
Inspired by the tremendous opportunities of the East Coast of Tasmania, Geoff and Susan Bull cleared the site in 1978, planted the first vines in 1979 and established the first commerical winery on the East Coast. They were early pioneers in a new region which years later revealed exciting quality potential in wines. The region now boasts over a dozen different vineyards.
The Freycinet Vineyard and Winery is family owned with daughter Lindy Bull and her partner Claudio Radenti taking over the family tradition of gently handcrafting the wines.
Savoury, elegant and firm in the spirit of Bordeaux clarets!
Fully ripened Cabernet Sauvignon (55%) and Merlot (45%) has produced a full bodied style with plenty of cool climate charm and elegance. The enticing aroma reveals a mixture of black currant and berry fruits with herbs, olives and cedar perfume. The vibrant palate is firm but elegant featuring liqueur cherries and plum fruits with some sweet oak/cedar characters derived from 18 months maturation in French oak casks. The finish is long and savoury, driven by trademark Cabernet tannins. Decanting and allowing the wine to breathe is recommended to bring out extra nuances of flavour and complexity. Beautiful cigar box perfume and smoothness will develop with cellaring over 10 to 20 years in a good cellar.
Food and Wine Combinations
The fruit sweetness and tight knit structure of the wine makes it a perfect partner to robust strong flavoured dishes and cheeses. A classic match with roast lamb where the tannins help cut through the fat and refresh the palate. Hearty beef casserole, coq au vin, osso bucco, capretto and barbequed steak would all be superb!
