4.5 stars and top of category 'The Great Cabernet Challenge' Winestate Magazine (July/August 2017)
Vintage 2013 was a dream vintage in many ways - great flowering, relatively dry weather with low disease pressure and a warmer than average summer, which provided the warmth and length in the season to fully mature the grapes.
A classically styled cool climate Cabernet Merlot with many years in front of it. A dark intense colour in the glass, the nose is expressive with blackberries, black cherries, graphite, tobacco leaf and lifted floral notes. The medium bodied palate is powerful and muscular, more blackberry and dark plum flavours intertwined with cocoa, black olive, smoky oak and mineral nuances. The excellent tannic structure will ensure this wine develops in the cellar for the next several years - or you could simply drink it right now, paired with a rich meat dish such as Tasmanian Cape Grim beef fillets.
